29 May 2020 The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has today released their 2019 annual report. This report outlines the self-regulatory action undertaken by the ASA on behalf of New Zealand advertisers, as regulator of all ads in all media.

Anzac Day Advertising Guidelines
The Ministry of Culture and Heritage provides guidelines about the use of the word Anzac in advertising. The guidelines prohibit the use of the word Anzac in trade or business unless approval has been given by the minister for arts, culture and heritage and the governor-general.

Today the new Gambling Advertising Code applies to all ads
The new Gambling Code recognises that gambling advertisements must not undermine the need for the prevention and minimisation of gambling-related harm, with particular regard for the need to protect children, young people and other vulnerable persons.

New Gambling Advertising Code Comes Into Effect Today
Today the new Gambling Advertising Code will be effective for all new gambling advertisements. Advertisements that were placed before 5 August 2019 need to comply with Code For Advertising Gaming and Gambling. All gambling ads must comply with the new Gambling Advertising Code from 4 November 2019.
