New Decisions: Funeral Insurance, Fitness Trainers and More

A television advertisement for the PowerFit vibration training device made claims about efficacy of the product, specifically toning muscles and supporting weight management. The advertisement included before and after pictures of people to illustrate the results. A complaint was made about this advertisement, the Complainant saying some of the before and after pictures were misleading and that the images implied the product could help with skin issues.

New Decisions: Travel Agents, Medicines and More

Online travel company Webjet recently ran a television advertisement featuring a young woman saying her travel agent failed to give her all the information she needed so she had gone online and had made her own bookings. A voiceover then promoted the Webjet site “which lets you see and compare all your available airfare choices to actually book the best deal.”

New Decisions: Workplace Safety, Electricity Savings and More

Spark’s television advertisement portraying a logging industry worker using a personal audio device whilst working around heavy machinery led to a complaint that this represented unsafe work place practice. The ASA Complaints Board noted the advertisement did not show the person working while listening to music and the advertisement’s focus was on the father and daughter relationship.

New Zealand’s most complained about advertisement for 2015 was an online advertising campaign by I Love Ugly to promote its range of men’s jewellery.  There were a total of 26 complaints made to the Advertising Standards Authority about this advertisement.
